Prevention for active kids

Pediatric Dentist for Cooper Mountain, OR Families

Cooper Mountain kids spend time outdoors. Bien Dental focuses on cavity prevention, fluoride and sealants for growing smiles.

Short answer: Cooper Mountain families are close to Bien Dental’s office at 18355 SW Alexander St in the Aloha–Beaverton area. Dr. Hsu offers pediatric dentistry with a focus on cavity prevention, including fluoride and sealants, and Dr. Gvozden treats adults. If you are unsure about your home water, ask us at your first visit.

Outdoorsy kids, cavity prevention and a question about water

Cooper Mountain is a place where children spend time outside: hiking at Cooper Mountain Nature Park, riding bikes on quiet streets, playing in the yard. All that activity brings appetite, and sports bottles and trail snacks are part of the day.

We think about dental care here through the lens of prevention. It is simple, it works, and it is much less stressful for a child than a filling.

Three prevention tools worth knowing

Fluoride

Topical fluoride strengthens enamel. Dr. Hsu may recommend fluoride varnish based on your child’s risk.

Fluoride treatments →

Sealants

Thin protective coatings on the chewing surfaces of back teeth help keep food and bacteria out of deep grooves.

Everyday habits

Water between meals, snacks that do not linger, and brushing twice a day make a big difference.

Cleanings and checkups →

Does your home water matter for your child’s teeth?

Many communities in Oregon do not add fluoride to municipal water, and homes on private wells can differ again. We do not make claims about any specific city or neighborhood. What we can do is ask about your child’s drinking water, bottled water use and toothpaste, and then talk through whether extra fluoride makes sense.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association both support appropriate fluoride use. The right amount depends on age, cavity risk and total exposure. Bring your questions to your visit.

Parent tip: Note where your child gets most of their drinking water, and bring that information with you. It helps us tailor advice.

Our office is at 18355 SW Alexander St, Beaverton, OR 97006, near SW 185th Ave and TV Highway (OR-8). Cooper Mountain is on the southwest side of the Beaverton area, and families generally find us a short drive away. We do not quote minute-by-minute times because traffic varies. A live map will give the best estimate for your appointment day.

  • Your child’s health history and medicines
  • Insurance details, if you would like us to check benefits

From baby teeth to braces

Growing families on Cooper Mountain include everyone from newborns to teenagers. We are glad to see them all. Babies can begin with an infant oral health visit. Around age six or seven, permanent molars and incisors erupt, which is when sealants and orthodontic screening come into focus. Later, teen dentistry supports sports, changing diets and independence.

Parents are welcome for adult care with Dr. Gvozden. Nearby Aloha and Beaverton families follow similar routes.

A simple daily plan that fits a busy household

  • Brush morning and night with fluoride toothpaste: a smear for children under 3, a pea-sized amount for ages 3 to 6.
  • Help children brush until about age 7 or 8 (tying their own shoes is a common sign they are ready), a common rule of thumb.
  • Offer water between meals, and keep juice and sports drinks to mealtimes.
  • Clean between teeth once they touch, with floss or floss picks.
  • Keep regular checkups, about every six months unless Dr. Hsu suggests otherwise.

None of this needs to be perfect. Consistency matters more than intensity, and we would rather help you build habits that stick than hand you an impossible list.

What we will not do

We will not lecture you about a sugary snack or judge a lapse in flossing. Parents know how hard it is to run a household, and children are children. What we will do is give practical, kind advice: one or two changes at a time. Small steps, repeated, are how strong teeth are built. That could mean swapping one sweet drink for water, moving bedtime brushing to right before lights out, or simply keeping a checkup on the calendar. Every change counts, and we will celebrate the wins with your child. If you want a place to start, book a visit through the appointment request page, or read our parent resources.
